A new national group of New Zealand’s leading tech experts was formed in Auckland today, because the country is facing unprecedented growth and change in tech – which is now the nation’s fastest growing sector.

Tech Leaders has been set up with the support of NZTech and is a group of passionate New Zealand tech, digital and ICT focused-executives from leading organisations that will work together, with the support of NZTech, to use their experience to help address tech related issues of national importance.

NZTech chief executive Graeme Muller says New Zealanders are seeing dramatic tech changes the likes of which have never been seen before.

Hi Readers,

Last week in Taipei, I listened to Alan Marcus, Head of Technology at the World Economic Forum as he provided an update on the Network Readiness Index as an important measure of digital readiness. According to their rankings, in 2016 New Zealand rated 17th in the world, quite good, but well behind digital leaders such as Singapore, USA, UK and Scandinavian countries. Measuring a range of economic, social and technology factors, the index is serving as a good proxy for what is important for a digital nation. I looking forward to the 2017 update due soon as he alluded to some changes and I hope New Zealand is moving the right direction on the list.

Return to IT pilot encourages Women into Tech

The Ministry of Business and Employment (MBIE) and the Ministry for Women today launched a pilot to attract more women back into the technology sector.

Based in Wellington, Return to IT assists women with a digital technology backgrounds to return to work in the sector after taking a career break of between two and five years. Successful applicants will be offered an opportunity to be placed with a participating organisation, or assistance with seeking employment in the IT sector.
